Marriage CoMission

Five Year Initiative will focus on supporting healthy marriages in cities across the country

Stirring up the desire for marriage and equipping communities to support healthy marriages is the focus of a new initiative launched in November, 2003, at a Marriage Movement Summit. The participants of the Summit gathered to develop a common goal: unification of those who are passionate about marriage in our society. These “Marriage Champions” agreed to create the Marriage CoMission with the goal of inspiring the God-given desire within men and women for life-long, healthy marriages and equipping these couples to lead strong families and raise hope-filled children who will shape our nation and future generations.

The Marriage CoMission is a partnership of leaders and organizations that are joining forces to strengthen the marriage movement in America. To achieve the greatest impact, the Marriage CoMission is targeting individual cities where community members can pool their cultural capital to stimulate growth and change. The Marriage CoMission seeks to support and connect individuals and organized groups through collaborative relationships, fellowship, and Web-based resources.

The Marriage CoMission serves those who are already passionate and active in supporting marriage in cities across the country. Because the Marriage CoMission seeks to fuel the marriage movement and not individual agendas, the participants are working together under a neutral banner to coordinate and grow a mutual focus on cities. Collaboration is essential to our vision of seeing churches, civic organizers, business leaders, and marriage advocates come together and integrate their efforts to cultivate the desire for healthy marriages.

As individuals in a community are burdened to see change, the Marriage CoMission will come along side them and assist them with information and relationships. The CoMission will draw on the strengths of various organizations and integrate them into a unified, powerful effort.
